Local Walk Ambassador: Jacob
This is my son Jacob, he is a healthy and happy 11-year-old boy. Jacob is one of 4 children, he has 2 older brothers and a younger sister.
Jacob was diagnosed in 2015 at the age of 9. He was struggling socially at school, as well as it was very difficult changing routines, scheduled plans and getting to see others perceptions. We learned how he sees things in such a unique way and skills to work with him.
Jacob has a great passion for dirt bikes and cars. It amazes me every time when he can tell you what car is driving by right down to the year make and model. First thing he asked when in the back of an ambulance was regarding the engine size :).
Through all of his challenges he has maintained his caring heart for others. He has a heart of gold that shines whether it is through helping a friend, or making a cup of tea for you when you are not feeling well.
Through being bullied, and struggling with his own school work, I was so proud to see Jacob stand up for a child in his grade and writing him a lovely note of support and encouragement.
We participated in the Caledonia walk last year and he made sure to let supporters know he was not only walking for himself, but also his friend Lucas.
He has approached his school principal as well this year and requested the toonies brought in for Civvies day in April be for Light it up Blue.
Jacob never ceases to amaze me and is truly a hero in my eyes.
