Local Walk Ambassador: Matteo
Matteo is a happy and affectionate non-verbal 7 year old boy who was diagnosed with autism at 2 ½ years of age. He participated in IBI (Intensive Behavioural Therapy) for an 18 month period where he was able to improve on social skills, receive behavioural therapy and was the first participant to learn PECS with an IPAD App. Matteo is now able to request his needs with the use of his IPAD App and has had decreased levels of frustration. Upon completion of his IBI therapy, Matteo began full time enrollment at Notre Dame Catholic School in Caledonia. He is currently in Grade 2 and has many friends who are always eager to play and learn along with Matteo. Matteo loves simple pleasures like long drives, walks, bubbles and coat hangers!
Along with his mother Rose, father Joe and big sister Elisa, Matteo has participated in Autism Speak Canada walks in Toronto, London and Niagara. With the support of his family, friends, peers and neighbours, Matteo will be participating in the first ever Caledonia Walk for Autism in June. Matteo and his family are thrilled that he has been chosen to lead this year’s Caledonia Walk as the Autism Speaks Canada ambassador.
Our team Matteo’s Mission is hoping to raise money to help Autism Speaks Canada provide resources for families with loved ones that are also on the ASD spectrum along with helping fund various research projects. Our team will be comprised of Matteo’s family and friends along with a group of volunteers from WestJet Airlines that have participated with us in past events to make our team successful. With the help of all these awesome people, Matteo’s Mission is guaranteed to succeed!
The Walk includes fun activities, performers and snacks, before and after the Walk. Arrive early to give yourself lots of time to visit and enjoy the event with your family and friends!
