Local Walk Ambassador: Jackson
Jackson is a beautiful 6 year old boy who is very affectionate, happy, funny and very intelligent. Jackson started showing signs as young as 2 and was diagnosed with Autism when he was 4 years old. Since his diagnosis, Jackson became heavily involved with Kids Ability and has been receiving intensive behaviour therapy for 5 hours a day, 3 days a week as well as speech once a week. The changes in Jackson have been amazing and he has gone from being non-verbal to speaking in full sentences and reading books. He had always been a happy, easy-going child, despite having some major curveballs thrown in the family’s direction over the last 5 years. He is currently in Senior Kindergarten and enjoys swimming, reading and watching car videos on YouTube. Jackson takes after his late Grandfather with his love for cars and we can see him in a career that involves them.
Jackson continues to amaze those around him by the determined way he faces these challenges and his new strides that he takes on a weekly basis. We are proud to have been involved with Autism Speaks Canada Walk for the last 3 years and Jackson’s team, Jackson’s Journey is looking forward to growing and spreading more awareness. As he emerges as a fantastic advocate for himself and his peers, he looks forward to his role as the 2017 Guelph Walk Ambassador and using this opportunity to share his story and compassion with others.
