Team Lucas Q

We welcomed our beautiful son Lucas into the world on February, 8th, 2008. He instantly became the love of our lives, with his charming smile and big, brown eyes that could light up any room. The hugs and affection that greeted me each day upon my arrival from work would brighten up even the darkest of days. We would marvel at his growing vocabulary and increasing awareness of his surroundings. Life was perfect. Suddenly, that all changed……

Just after Lucas turned 2 years old, we began seeing a change in him. He became increasingly distant from us and the world around him. The joyous smiles that would greet us each day were now replaced with blank stares that would seem to go right through us. All the words he had acquired slowly began to vanish and he could no longer identify objects from picture books that he had mastered long ago. On December 2nd, 2010, our son Lucas was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We had lost the love of our lives.

From that day forward, we vowed to do everything in our power to help rediscover our beautiful little boy. With the help of our extended family and friends, we have been able to provide Lucas with intensive intervention and the support he needs to get the most out of his talents and abilities. Slowly but surely, the words started coming back to him and the sparkle in his eyes that had once left had returned. It has not been easy, for nothing this important ever is. While we celebrate his successes and gains every day, we also lament the bumps and setbacks along this journey. Today, Lucas is a happy, affectionate and energetic 11 year-old who loves spending time with his dad, mother Sonia and little sister Lexi. He enjoys video games, ice skating, swimming and, of course, eating!

Our family has been involved with Autism Speaks Canada for almost eight years, having formed “Team Lucas Q” in 2011. Through the efforts of our wonderful team members and generous supporters, we have raised in excess of $80,000 to date! We were extremely honoured and humbled to have been chosen as the National Honorary Ambassadors for the 2016 Walk. With your help, we have made a real difference in the lives of people living with a ASD.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT

Sincerely,

Team Lucas Q
