Welcome to My Personal Page
Dear Family and Friends,
I am participating in Autism Speaks Canada Walk because Walk dollars make an impact on the autism community.
As the prevalence of autism continues to rise, it’s more important than ever to fund research and services so that people with autism have the opportunity to meet their full potential. In fact, Walk dollars have gone towards training Early Childhood educators, helping newly diagnosed families navigate the health care system, and young adults learning skills to help them find jobs – and that is just to name a few.
Here are some of the things that we’ve learnt about autism in the last 10 years…
- Autism can be reliably diagnosed by age 2.
- High-quality early intervention does more than develop skills.
- One third of children and adults with autism are nonverbal.
- Most adults with autism (84%) remain living with their parents.
- Over 80% of adults with autism are unemployed.
There’s still so much more to learn…and you can help.
My reason for taking part is my 10 year old son Karterlee. He has Autism spectrum disorder, ADHD , and anxiety disorders. My hope is one day we find a cure for autism. Karter is my world and i would do anything to make him happy. He has so many challenges he faces daily. Things we take for granted. Even brushing his teeth is cause for an episode. It seams so simple for us but to him the sound of the tooth brush rubbing on his teeth, The taste of the toothpaste, the texture, all is overwhelming for him. I wish their was a way to make this easier for him. One day we will find the answers we are searching for. My son is a fighter. He is strong! He tries his best. I am so proud of him for everything he accomplishes each and every day.
By making a donation and supporting my efforts, you are making a difference to the autism community. You are supporting kids like karter.
