Welcome to My Personal Page
Our road to making a difference for Autism Speaks really began when my brother Griffin was diagnosed with Autism at age 4 and a half. He had multiple diagnoses, including a very rare genetic anomaly of which there were only 4 people in the world with the same diagnosis. He also had a diagnosis of developmental delay. He continues to have qualitative impairments in the areas of communication, social interaction and independent living skills. In April 2007, at the age of 3 years 4 months, Emerson, my youngest brother was also diagnosed with Autism, specifically Asperger's Syndrome.
Our family has participated in the Autism Speaks walk since 2008. We originally raised money through our immediate family and friends and went down to participate in the Walk Now for Autism Speaks at Nathan Phillips Square. After the second year of the Bush Bunch participating in the walk, I was in grade 8 and I received a package that included a pamphlet on ways to help fundraise. I studied this list, trying to figure out what would be the best way to raise money. At age 13, I decided that a garage sale was the way to go. I drafted a flyer to advertise to friends and neighbours and delivered them door to door. My flyer elicited donations from the community of items for the sale. Neighbours and community members also came to the sale to purchase items, where all money raised went to Autism Speaks Canada. The Bush Bunch's goal that first year was to raise $ 1,00 and we surpassed that goal, raising $ 2,100.
Since this first garage sale, The Bush Bunch has raised over $74,000 for Autism Speaks Canada. Over the years I have been honoured to speak at the 2011 Toronto Walk Now for Autism Speaks Canada and then in 2014 I was given the opportunity cut the ribbon and The Bush Bunch lead the Toronto walk. I was also named the top youth fundraiser in 2014, raising over $10,000.
Feel free to donate to my page or The Bush Bunch page. We truly appreciate all of your support!
