Meet Lucas Quattrociocchi

2016 National Ambassador Lucas QuattrociocchiWe welcomed our beautiful son Lucas into the world on February, 8th, 2008.  He instantly became the love of our lives, with his charming smile and big, brown eyes that could light up any room.  The hugs and affection that greeted me each day upon my arrival from work would brighten up even the darkest of days.  We would marvel at his growing vocabulary and increasing awareness of his surroundings.  Life was perfect.  Suddenly, that all changed……

Just after Lucas turned 2 years old, we began seeing a change in him.  He became increasingly distant from us and the world around him.  The joyous smiles that would greet us each day were now replaced with blank stares that would seem to go right through us.  All the words he had acquired slowly began to vanish and he could no longer identify objects from picture books that he had mastered long ago.  On December 2nd, 2010, our son Lucas was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

From that time forward, we have learnt that life does go on. We are proud that, with the help of our extended family and friends, we have been able to provide Lucas with intensive intervention and the support he needs to get the most out of his talents and abilities.  Slowly but surely, the words started coming back to him and the sparkle in his eyes that had once left had returned.  We know that Lucas will continue to need support to meet his potential.

We are honored that Lucas was chosen as the Autism Speaks Canada Walk 2016 National Honorary Ambassador.  For the last 5 years, we have participated in this event and look forward to continuing to raise money to fund services and research to the benefit of the autism community.  Please join us.
